Here's a zoomed out picture from the campus that included the Museum & design studio.

Lind/Greg,

Do you know the chain of ownership for the bus, up until Mike Wolfe bought it? Wink

Not much to add on the Bus topic, but I did find a local jeep hard top and doors for a Willys/CJ5 with the Brooks Stevens Auto Museum logo on them on craigslist local. Thought it peculiar as this Brooks Stevens topic was just brought up again.

The 1954 Brooks Stevens Westy in its current condition. The underside is getting restore to fix rust and damage incurred over the years with special care to preserve the outside original condition that the bus is known for.

The engine sheet metal is getting fixed. The transmission is getting upgraded it will still retain its barndoor reduction boxes and front beam but will have a 912 motor put back in it just as The pictures above show it. And will running 16" barndoor rims with Porsche drum brakes.

Linda, Is this what passes as good work these days?

Hurst bumpers? Are you kidding me? I could see those being cool to tart up some panel that didn't have much going on otherwise.

It's sad to watch this bus being ruined so quickly.

Greg,
Your biggest gripe is hurst bumpers?

It's what the owner wants to do so we oblige.

He wanted the underside reserved as well as the engine bay while preserving the exterior in its current condition.

We also restored the Barndoor reduction boxes and the front beam. It will have the 356 drums on it. And Barndoor drums in the rear. And a super 90 356 motor. And the reproduction 16"356 rims from Concept1.

Here are some more pictures of what we did all while preserving the exterior to keep it in its hayday of the Brooks Stevens Excalibur sports car theme.

Btw the owner will be using this bus as a driver and not a show piece.

So I would disagree that it is being "ruined" as would many others

No, I think the biggest gripe is that the owner won't sell it to me!

Second might be the Hurst bumpers....I think there's absolutely no reason to tart up this bus at all, it's cool just how it is.

Third would be the person who left this thing sitting outside for 20 years, man, I'd forgotten what a roach this thing is!

I know some of you have seen this pic as you have the book. Taken from the 125 Year Jubilee Westfalia book. At first I thought it the same bus.
