My notchback VIN starts with 315, from one site that puts it in 65 and from another that puts it in late 64.

the two numbers on top of the case are 0629881 and 2028406

can anyone help me better date the car/ engine date and size?

i did the research but am getting conflicting answers plus trouble with the two engine numbers.

thanks guys

315 is a 1965 model but it could be built in late 1964.
The 5 in 315 = 1965 model year.

We would need more of the VIN # to tell you more information.

You can look at the Type 3 VIN list here to find the month/year of production:

0629881 sounds like a Type 3 engine #.
This engine # is from near the start of July, 1964 according to the charts above.

Where does 2028406 appear? This is not a Type 3 engine #.

I'd use the 062 number, but also keep in mind that the engine may have been rebuilt, so without taking it apart you won't know what it's really got inside.
