Hi,
I have a gearbox with a broken ring and pinion.
Broken one is a swing type gearbox with new clutch(and clutch sleeve).
For parts I have older swing box(with older clutch bearing).
Can I swap all content of older box to newer case?
Or just swap ring and pinion from older to new?
Thanks you |

possibly.but unless you have all the tools&know how you would be better sending it off to somebody to do it that knows how and has a good reputation for such work. |

How did the R&P break? Teeth stripped off the pinion? If so, your case is junk. _________________

Looks like someone tried to burn rubber in reverse a big no-no as the pinion will climb with no support and case will give way and teeth will chew them selves to junk. |

Ring and Pinion gears. The one in the pic is the pinion gear and it meshes with the ring gear. They usually come as a matched set. _________________ AshMan40

Usually it blows reverse gear up first just for that reason as there is no support for the reverse sliding gear. what it looks like to me is someone tried to do a burn out on gravel and hit pavement with the power still on and "snap" _________________ 66- Ghia

Or maybe it was put together badly.
I know 100% there have been no burnouts. |

I don't think reverse has anything to do with that failure. When drag racers break the pinion teeth, the cracks always start at the end of the tooth nearest the bearing, just like in the pic.
It is possible to swap an early 60s 4.37 R&P into your late gearbox, but you need to know what parts are also needed to make the swap work. Your newer diff will have 8 bolts on the ring gear. The older ring gear has 6. That means you have to use the early diff housing.
When you swap the R&P and the diff housing, you have to set the pinion depth, then the diff bearing preload, then the ring gear backlash.
Can you handle that?
Easier is to get a late 8 bolt 4.37 R&P. Then it fits into your late trans without needing to swap a bunch of other parts to make it work. You won't have to set the diff bearing preload since you'll be using the gearbox's original diff, but you will need to do the pinion depth and ring gear backlash. _________________
