I just rebuilt my 1600 fuel port vw, i can't get it to idle, so I decided to rebuild my carb, after that I got it to idle a little better, even though it was idling pretty fast, it would still die after about a minute, I decided to go ahead to replace my fuel pump, from a generator to an alternator style fuel pump, now I can't get it to run at all unless I press the throttle. this was the same problem I was having before I rebuilt the carb. What's up here? |

I just went thru the same thing. It turns out messing with the fuel pump introduced crud into the carb and it needed a good cleaning. _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |

The most likely cause for an engine that won't idle but will somewhat run at higher rpm or when constantly working the throttle is a dirty/plugged idle jet or idle circuit.
That aside, did you swap out the fuel pump push rod when you swapped from a generator style to an alternater style pump? _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |
