Hello all- new to the board but have been browsing the site for a whle looking to buy my first classic Beetle.
I am not new to the collector car hobby- I've been buying, restoring, and collecting old Saabs for years but I'm running into something here that I've not had happen before.
I've replied to several classified ads here, the responses have been-
No reply at all
or
"I sold the car last week", "sold 2 weeks ago", and "sold 4 weeks ago".
Ummmm why is your ad still up?
I was hoping my first post here would be something along the lines of "let me introduce myself and my car" but instead I've found this to be quite frustrating.
What am I missing?
Jon

It does happen. I have told the sellers to remove the ad if it is sold. They are idiots and lazy. Just don't care and are uninterested in the activities they do. More then likely do not give the site money as requested but site owner. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Hello and welcome.
A majority of sellers in the Classifieds are just here to sell a car and then never return, they aren't VW people, aren't on the site for information or research. Unfortunately, they treat it like a newspaper ad and forget about it or assume it will just "roll off". Which it does after 90 days, and that can be frustrating.
This surprised us when we ran statistics on how many site users only have 1 ad. _________________ Donate to TheSamba.com

Also please hit "Report" in the ad to send a message to site admin (me) saying the seller stated it was sold.
I will contact them and ask them to remove it or remove it myself.
I have considered shortening the expiration time for Vehicles for this reason but overall, it's a small percentage. _________________ How to Post Photos

I have seen on other forums where you have to be a member for a certain amount of time or have x amount of posts before using the classifieds to sell. _________________ Schrodinger's cat walked into a bar and it didn't.

All I can say is that so far I'm "0 for 5" on this site alone and 0 for 10 in total.
Honestly I'm not blaming the admins or the people here in general, but when you're sitting here ready to drop 10k on something you don't really NEED and people don't even have the courtesy to reply- let alone take down an ad no longer relevant, it tends to sour you on the niche as a whole and make you wonder "are these the kind of people I'm going to be dealing with going forward".
I apologize if that come across as nasty, I don't mean it that way, I'm just frustrated and beginning to think I should just stick with a marque I know.
Thanks for the suggestion. If I make further attempts, I'll copy myself on the email so I can track with non-response or previously sold email goes with which ad. |

have you checked
atlanta.craigslist.org?
Looked like several nice examples in that price range.
Far more than here in the midwest.

He has pics in his gallery. From what I can see, it's a nice car. Needs a couple bits here and there. But it's nice.
Enjoy the ride. _________________ I have learned over the years.

Thank you, yes, it's a very solid car. Not perfect, but a lot of fun and I'll enjoy working on the bits here and there. |

Very sweet looking Bug!
I'd love to have an earlier Bug than my '70, but would really hate it if I had to do away with the sunroof! You are going to love that one right there! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |
