I guess John Henry is the man to answer my questions but any other input is always welcome.

My 1946 was dismantled well over 30 years ago, most of the wiring was either destroyed or seriously cut and modified. My memory just does not work well enough to re-fit new wiring so now I am looking for help in defining the exact routing of all of the looms.

I have a new genuine main loom which was certainly made for a split as it has the long interior light wire, maybe John Henry can help me identify what year it was made for.

The other looms will have to be sourced later.

As much detailed help as possible will be much appreciated.

Hi Rod,
If you look in the gallery I posted a few shots of behind the dash of my 46.

Let me know if you want some specific photos.

Thanks Mark, do you have any pictures of the other wiring and fuse box locations? Beside the fuel tank, across the spare wheel well and in the engine bay?

I have always assumed that the loom passed over the left side of the car like the later vehicles. Is that correct?

Are the two semaphore looms separate items?

All of this is a long way off as the body shell will be six to eight months to completion.

The '46 wiring is very similar to the later splits. I made the harness for Mark's '46 and had the luxury of him loaning me not one, but 2 (pieces of anyway) original harnesses.

Dimensionally, the mid-48s and earliers are different on the dash pod end as the indicator lights are swapped left to right compared to the later ones. And the main harness, dash end is different also, to accommodate the earlier pod style. That being said, you could use a later harness set on an early split, but the wires behind the dash would be a little "tight" in some places and not lay out real nice.

The other big difference is in the construction materials. The harnesses are loomed in PVC, not cloth, but the center section of the main harness, is wrapped in spiral twine, not covering the wires completely. And yes, it does go over the left side roof line like the later ones.

I am am presently do a couple '48 kits from an original, and there are even subtle differences there, but it is more or less exactly like the '46.

I'd be happy to help you with your resto and supply wiring if you like....

The restoration is coming together now, I've managed to obtain a recoverable large knob dash pod which was needed as the original had been butchered way back in the past.

The only things that I lack for the 'new' pod is a green lens for the oil light and keys for the ignition switch. I have emailed Marcus about the key but I am still in need of the green lens. Does anyone have a source of these?

Thanks Everett, I've emailed 'brezelwerks'.

Here is a picture of my dash pod as it is now, missing the green lens. The speedo' is original marked 9 46, the car is November '46.

You may have to find just any kind of green lens.
Of an old switch or any illuminated display.
As long as it is slightly arched and is plastic and has more or less the right color. You sand it smaller and smaller until it has the right diameter and you have the little lens you need. I did so once and it looked pretty good.
