Is there a choice of wiper blades? Maybe some better than others or are we confined to the standard VW windshield wiper blade? Bob

The Bosch micro edge blades are excellent. Of course they are not as good as the current modern Bosch icon blades on my Golf....but if you wiper blaxe arms are in good shape and properly adjusted.....the micro edge blades are very good.

And Rain-X does wonders if applied properly: A THOROUGHLY clean glass that has been THOROUGHLY dried out, then given two coats of Rain-X. Blades are almost unnecessary, and when you DO use them, it wipes very cleanly.

X2.

And doijg the full clean and adjust on all wiper shafts and pivots ....AND......cleaning out the grease from inside of the wiper motor gearbox and putting in thickened gear oil instead.....plus servicing brushes and polishing armature. ...and above all....going to a direct ground link....can almost double wiper speed.

I am also looking at possibly putting in just slightly larger/stronger springs on the wiper arms to give better glass contact at high speeds.

I also may do an experiment. I have a wiper motor from a Mk 2 golf that can probably bopt into type 3 or 4 wiper pantographs with minor mods. Same timing.....better gearing and faster wiping. Ray
