Well the snow is going to fly soon and due to circumstances beyond my control my 57 beetle is going to be my daily driver for the winter. Right now I'm running 135r15 on the front and 165/80r15 on the back. Stock smoothie rims. I at least need snow tires on the rear, can't find 165/80r15's in a snow tire. Anybody know of a snowy that is close in size and readily available?

I've found 185/65r15s readily available, diameter is ~0.9 less however I'm concerned that that is too wide for the stock rim. Any thoughts?

I suggest Vredestein SNOW+ 155/80 R15 82Q or SNOW+ 165/80 R15 86Q (Maybe only available in Europe?)

Looks like Vredestein is a Europe only, no distributors in North America that I can find, at least that carry the snow tires.

We run studded 165's here in OR. I have a pair that came off a squareback if you want them free? I can bring them to Kent, WA @ Thanksgiving for you to pick up at my sister's house?

Talk to Tommy- Tom the Tire Guy- in Whalley. 604 581 8550. I'v always found him to be helpful, his knowledge of what's out there is second to none and he doesn't limit himself to 1 distributor. If it's available he can get it. Mon-Fri they open at 8:30 and get busy quickly, so the earlier in the day the better. Saturdays they start at 9.

Looks like there are more places stocking Vredestein Snow Classics in the States.

Tires Unlimited

Tires Easy

Platte River Tires

Sandon Tire

I haven't sent them a recent e-mail but about a year ago Sandon had a major fire and lost all their Vredestein Snow Classic tires. But they still have the ad a year later, so I would guess they're back up and going again.

There have always seemed to be a lot of places in Europe that have these tires. Also a place or two in Canada. But here in the United States these have been impossible to locate until now.

Maybe this isn't as important to others as it is to me, but where I live we get lots of snow, and ice. And snow. Did I mention ice? And the wife and I are actually contemplating on using the Bug as our only motorized personal form of transportation. And since we don't ride our bikes that much during winter, snow tires on the Bug and not on the bikes would be a good idea.
