Thanks for that explanation. So if I have a spray bottle of thinner (of sorts) then my spray bottle of purple degreaser (or similar) then rinse it all away with water I should expect the same results? Good deal. _________________ nothing |

I too used to be very careless w/ carb cleaner and the like. A little off-topic, but seems like I've heard that some synth/rubber stuff like injection/ mold electrical plugs produce hydrofluoric (HF) acid when burned. To be very careful around fire-damaged cars, etc. Dangerous stuff! _________________ It doesn't matter where you start, it all comes together; it all falls apart. |

Since about 8 months or so have passed, I figured I would bump this thread for those who may have missed it.
Please read the first page at least, if not all of it.

Best practice is to use ALL solvents in well-ventilated areas only. Typically I place dirty part on my garbage can outside, and spray it there.
When using furniture strippers, best to carry the piece outdoors and do the stripping there. Mrs. Cusser says she likes to do her stripping outdoors. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. I'm sure she's glad you shared that with all of us. Where in Arizona do you live, again? |

Glad to see this old post back to the top which I just read. I'm shocked by the guy's life threatening experience with brake cleaner and hopefully will always remember his story. Thank you cdennisg for the post from 2010 and glad it is still available. I am printing it for my garage along with his advice of keeping these handy:

I went to dinner with my family tonight since it's our tenth wedding anniversary. We stopped at a cool little off the path place that has cold beer and good food. I picked up a motorcycle magazine (the place caters to traveling bikers) and found an interesting article. It was a follow up to the one I have linked here.
Please read it. This is something that had never occurred to me, but is something that any one of us could encounter when working around the shop. It opened my eyes. |

Have you considered simply starting with a nicer bus? I don't know what your skills are, but the race is easier if you can see the finish line. If you are not a runner, don't start off doing a marathon. |

This post brings back memories….
I was tig welding a bracket onto a workshop stool that has a gas strut.
As soon as I made an arc the pressure from inside the chamber blasted out gave me a fright and I inhaled a lung full and passed out.
I was sick for a few days after.. caught me of guard |

Alive again this thread -
reading the front I see Russ Wolfe's post/s. Hard to imagine it has been that long. Along w/ Hamburger...
All chemicals in household and shop use are harmful to your health - so use sparingly and w/ caution.
Besides the obvious health issues from years of use, then you get old. Now the Covid -
So..stay well and safe. |
