|
|
I've had this bug for 18 years. It was last on the road in 2001 and was more of a "beach" style buggy. Finally redone from the ground up. My brother (Howard) builds custom motorcycles and did all of the work.
Some details left.
- Not happy with the tires. Rear tires are non-DOT off a UTV. Looking to have an aggressive rear tread and ideally, a matching aggressive front tread for 15" wheels. There does not seem to be much out there. Any tips are welcome.
Cheers,
Shannon

Very cool. Could you please post a couple more pics showing battery placement in the front? |

I like your style. Nice built. I am jealous on the music. Only thing I would change is raise the rear suspension so the gap between tire and fender gets as big as with the front tire.
The meaty rear tires cry for long travel setup - they deserve more clearance to the fender.
This will raise the body so that the lower line of the side pot gets leveled parallel to the street and does not 'point down' towards the rear. An the rear roll bar would be raised above the level of the front roll bar.
Just my taste, I somehow find it a mismatch of the meaty rear tires and short travel setup. The car in total seems like a big wedge; height decreases from front roll bar towards the rear....
Or this is an optical illusion due to the angle of the fotos taken? _________________ '73 Beach Buggy

Very nice indeed !
How was NJ on the title and registration. It was a PITA years back to get a buggy inspected.

So clean, I really like the front bumper accenting the curves.

Hopefully some answers here....
TITLE/INSPECTIONS - NJ Title was REC from years ago w the previous owner. I bought in 1998. The funny thing is, NJ has just given up on Inspection. We worked really hard to make it perfectly legal, drive to Ancora inspection station, and they hand us a piece of paper stating that vehicles Older than 1995 do not need to be inspected any more. lol.
COOLING - Most of the cooling is handled by a remote Oil Cooler.
@germanx - This is all that is needed imho. Getting the stance correct. It will not be off-roaded despite the off-road look, so suspension will be mostly stock, though we are going coil-overs in the front, but travel will remain the same. Need to tune the tires and stance still.
INTAKE - Air cleaner assembly is a Hyper Charger for Harley Davidson. Before this shakedown run, we had the butterflies on the vacuum line, so they would activate on throttle. That was cool. We needed to remove the line and leave them open for carb tuning. Pic below.
BATTERY MOUNTING - The battery box can be seen in the pics below. Optima Red Top. The entire pan was boxed and cut.

No thought though on how hot the heads and cylinders might be getting? Essentially you're telling us that VW was wrong and we don't need the shroud or the rest of the engine sheetmetal? Any data to support this? _________________ On a lifelong mission to prove (much to my wife's dismay) that Immaturity is Forever!! |

An oil cooler only cools the oil. The heads and cylinders still need cool air flowing over them. _________________ Brian

Beautiful buggy. Everything seems to match nicely including the color choice and the tires. |
