I am currently stuck in 2nd gear and cannot get out of it. I was driving and may have push down on shifter and the seemed like it got stuck in second. I can move my shifter but cannot find second gear. I can push it down and back but cannot find reverse. Any help would be great.

Try and get it into third and fourth both pressing down and not pressing down. |

If none of that works get under it and take the fill plug out of the transmission and put a screw driver in the hole. Be careful, and pry the shift arm back and forth. You will feel a click when it moves. Some times it will work some times not. If it sticks again then it is rebuild time.

So if the transmission is shot what are the next options.
Would you go the same trans or upgrade to better?
What is a cost of trans or rebuild of old?
Can any transmission shop do a rebuild of a 1973 thing trans or do I need to find a specialist in the Congo that only works on Thing trans?
Thanks for any help. |

Pull it and have it rebuilt. There are several businesses that specialize in German transmissions. If you are driving it primarily on the road you might consider a slightly higher gearset, I would stay away from a freeway flier gearing. |

the fork inside the transmision is stuck, you can get to it with a screwdriver if you take out the filler plug on the side
theres a way to fix it with a screwdriver thru the hole
just not sure exactly how... _________________ Michael Basso
