That's one of the most colorful looking black and white photos I've seen in a long time. Cool! _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

First national into Finest is a good guess for sure.
If I am correct. The buildings on the hill are part of the UVM campus sports complex. The Mobil is still there and the First National hosts a bunch of stores now. Picture is looking west on route 2 just off of I89 exit for downtown Burlington.
Really cool to actually see a vintage picture I can place. One of the other VT pictures with the split in the road was looking north on route 7 driving into Burlington. If you stay left you end up on St Paul st. Stay right you head up to Champlain college. |

Good example of urban renewal in spite of the location of another Starbucks as indicated by the green 'Starbucks Coffee' sign on the left edge of the photo. Same view in both shots of intersection of Speedway Blvd & Country Club Rd. Someone wrote on a blog topic, "Old Bars & Restaurants In Tucson", that the Blue Note (below the Shell sign) was located at that intersection. That same mountain is 22 miles distant. A New Beetle is better than no Beetle at all.

While urban renewal may have removed some clutter, it can take quite a long time to traverse their fair city if you are not near one of the 2 freeways. It's stoplight hell... Little or no synchronization. Thank you for posting the pics. I always enjoy "then" and "now" shots _________________ Jack Staggs

I'm not a fan of Tucson for various reasons. One you mentioned here. The other is the city has never had a clue about Zoning for decades either. You have a low rent trailer park next to $500k housing next to an industrial park.. Just madness. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]
