Ive been working on my rail with a scat shifter and 5 rib transaxle. Ive got 1st and 2nd down pretty good, but I miss the 2nd to 3rd shift almost everytime. 1st and 3rd are always the hardest to get into gear but reverse, 2nd and 4th all give a very positive "detent" type feel when I shift into gear. I do have an adjustable shaft, could I possibly extend that slightly to help improve getting into 1st and 3rd without sacrificing reverse, 2nd and 4th? Or am I better off adjusting by moving the whole shifter assembly?

For most of us that have shifter problems and adjusting shifter up front does not help we put an adjustable end on trans end of shift rod...

I have an adjuster like Dale posted, I will play with that to see if that helps positive engagement for 1st and 3rd.

The shifter has enough throw, it's most likely the plastic ball is more like a sponge now. This makes it so the shifter can't move the shift selector far enough inside the nose cone.

Take off the nose cone and be careful of the bar dropping down and redo the shift linkage as needed.

Scott's link shows the plastic ball to be replaced with the steel ball. Brace up the bracket as well like he said while you're there.
