hey i looked briefly in the paint section and there is no paint chip recorded for the ultra rare sepia silver color only found on 1957 verts??

anyone know why this was left out.. looks like a killer color.. you can see the color code in the "archives > literature" section

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/56_57colors/56_57colors.pdf

page 22 and 23 of that pdf..

so wheres the code in this (am i blind?):
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/paintcodestype1.php

that might need an update!!

Not sure about that one - my CAR OF THE CENTURY book lists no such color in 1957. Convertible-only colors in 1957 are listed as L241 Bamboo Green, L316 Almond Green Metallic, L320 Dolphin Gray Light, L329 Shetland Gray Metallic and L336 Deep Blue.

I believe the code for sepia silver is L374. not 100% sure. I remember seeing that color in a paint chip book that was in the shop I use to work for. 20 years ago I had a sepia silver 57 convt. It was built Sept 1956. I thought they used that color only for a few months. But it has been quite some time since I read the information I had at the time. Hope this helps out.

Thank you,

Ruben

I am wondering now about 56, 57 verts and "special colors" that I have seen from the factory.

There have been several "white" 56 verts which are verified on BC. I myself have an October 56 vert that is a red color. Its not coral and its not inca.

Got my BC and it didnt help with shit. Still wondering what the original color for my vert is. Its not metallic (which I have a PPG paint chip and code) and looks more red than coral. According to this thread it might be Poppy Red?

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=277400

anyone have any factory literature to back up the poppy red?

I found this in PR.

I just took some pics against paint chips and the red is an exact match for sealing wax red!! Poppy red is a bit more red while the SWR has the right "brickness" about it. The two spots I used to compare are below the hinge plate and underneath the trunk lock base (definitely no sun or exposure as I just removed it for the pic).

Reviving this old thread!

Sepia Silver was used exclusively on Karmann Cabriolets from 1st Aug 1955 until 30th November 1956.

One amazingly beautiful Kabriolet color..............I drove a 1957 in that color while I was stationed in Germany with the US Army back in the 1980's/90's. Smile
