damn, €928 for a tattered 53 clock...and I thought I was asking too much when some people refused to pay €700 for my restored one.
Glad that mine didn't sell anyways, might be a keeper, just waiting for the right bus Very Happy .

Again I am working on a customer's Deluxe clock.
my father completely disassembled the movement and fixed all the broken and missing bits

working to +- 30 seconds a day, still improving.

the faceplate was quite scratched from being on the shelf without glass for some time

but we decided to save the patina and I spoted it in at least 10 different shades of brownish/olive because of the fading from sunlight. Think it turned out pretty good.

found a 100% correct VDO replacement minute pointer after 4 months of searching.

next is building the missing parts of the housing and finishing everything off with fresh paint, NOS glass and a (perfect quality) chrome bezel from Ricardo.

Everett, I don't know what kind of work needs to be done to your clock, but I think there would be a way to safely post it to Europe, and possibly get it back to the US after restoration with somebody flying over to a big meet or so to pick it up in person and in hand luggage (also hopefully they will accept it as a vintage clock in the security/customs section Confused Question ) I don't want to think about what a clock movement might look like for a safety guard...
My customer is from Hungary, only a few 100 kms so he will come to pick it up in person. Those balance springs in the movements are delicate stuff.
I will post further efforts this week.

Are you trying to build a repro clock? Here's a tip, Porsche 914 fuel gauges are a cheap source of metal light socket holders. It would be a lot easier to make the housing in fiberglass, which would look exactly the same as metal from the outside once you paint it.

No, I am not repro-ing these clocks. this is an original DLX clock that was missing the housing, so we decided to build as close as possible correct cup for it from scratch, as the customer was desperately looking for a correct clock for his 54 Samba. there is a lot of VDO gauges out there for donor parts like the bulb holders, but to the best of my knowledge, the late 53 to early 55 clock housing cup is a one off design only.

I've produced the artwork to print these faces. These can be supplied as a vinyl , or water slide to apply to your existing face.
I can also reproduce the metal dials and supply as a complete replacement part.

I am also looking at pad printing which replicate the original part exactly.

Anyway here are some proofs (which I'm currently tweeking).
PM me if interested.

Couple of Qs:

1) Any tips on removing the clock glass from the chrome trim?
Crimped in at 6 points.

2) Can anyone confirm the clock glass diameter, and thickness?
Probably the same as the speedo.

With thanks to Rob, I’ve got hold of a glass - ordered from eBay.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254760734236?hash=item3b50ec4e1c:g:Nr0AAOSwjbpfib7l
98mm x 2mm.
Clips straight in as you assemble.

For the record, the order of assembly (speedos & clocks) is:

I am missing these components for my 53-55 clock:

1. Long hand
2. Short hand
3. Centre button (late thicker version, no hole)

I think it’s just these 3 items anyway. Perhaps someone could confirm.
I’m thinking someone might be able to 3D print these for me now.

Obscure questions:

1. Is the hand (& button) from the same era speedo exactly the same as the clock long hand?

Update (thank you G):
Quote:
The speedo cap should be identical, but not the pointer itself. the bore for the shaft needs reamed (1.25mm tbc)

This is a 12/54 Speedo:

2. Is the short hand the same as the short hand from the earlier clock? What about the long hand?

This is a 3/52 clock I have. Note the slimmer centre button, with the hole.

If anyone can help with locating the hands and the button for my clock, please get in touch.
