It's probably not copper. Stock is copper plated steel. Have you tried a magnet on it?

If it is copper, it should be replaced with steel.

I can't recall if this was asked and answered before but why did they use copper-plated steel and not just a steel line like the brake lines?

Does the copper dissipate engine compartment heat better or ?

I've wondered that too, I was thinking more for corrosion resistance. Maybe higher stakes danger if a fuel line fails?

Early brake lines were also copper plated steel. This is original from my June 52 split.

Corrosion resistance. Probably at the time copper was the less expensive way.

Even solid metal brake lines today are coated one way or another to keep corrosion away for as long as possible and at same time to keep down final cost.
