Dear All,
I'm about to reupholster the rear seat bottom in my '72 convertible. Unfortunately, I can't find any information on how to do this seat properly. I have done a rear bottom before, but it was in a sedan and looked different. When I removed the old cover and padding on my convertible, , I noticed that there was a significant portion stapled into the frame. I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about doing the back seat bottom and if there is anything to keep in mind?

I just finished doing the seats on my 1971 convertible. I got my seat covers from Sewfine and had few problems. I used foam instead of horse hair. Put the seat bottom in the sun to warm it up before you try to stretch it over frame and foam. I also found the use of a heat gun useful. Use a good seat of hogring pliars and staples. The staple do attach to the frame wherever you can get one in. Go slow and work it one side at a time. Pay close attention to centering your material. I also attached a rubber place at I found at Lowe's in the area that goes over the battery. If the material won't stretch, reheat it and eventually it will move enough to fit. Good luck. |

I used screws instead of staples. I had no problems doing it that way. |

I just tried to do the seat bottom and they appear to be too big by about an inch long ways. Have I done something wrong?

I think I may have ordered the covers for a sedan. Could someone confirm this mistake before I send them back to Jbugs?

It doesn't clearly say. I'd call but they are closed. _________________ Michael Loret |

You don't have the right "cut" of your padding- and it is not thick enough. Carpet padding and upholsterer's foam- wrapped over the frame gives you very uneven lines and the material gets stretched thinner where it is most needed thick. Actual padding kits are thickest where it wraps over the frame (foam or "horsehair") so the vinyl is protected better and the wear areas remain durable longer. You need to start from the beginning again if you want decent results.
The model number of the kit on the parts themselves is more helpful than the receipt. _________________
