Is this hose enough to vent this gas tank for expansion?

yes but it's not for expansion. It allows air in to replace the fuel used so it doesn't get a vacuum on it and starve the pump. Much like a motorcycles vented cap etc. new cars don't have this because the pump pressurizes the tank and pushes it to the engine.
It would take a lot of pressure to expand the metal tank in ghias. And then you might want to stand well back. _________________ 63 ghia coupe |

Cool,I just wanted to make sure it was enough to vent the tank since I have a 68 and plugged the larger hose near the filler neck that ran out the passenger side fender.

You have blocked off the fill breather line which is different to the tank vent line - with this blocked off you may have problems with the pump cutting out when you are filling _________________ 1962 Karmann Ghia

I am guessing what you have is a fuel tank that is not correct for your year car but as close as it gets for a replacement part.
On my 71 there is a tube through the fender that connects to the line you blocked off. Its not on your car. The other end of the tube connects to the fill tube in the fenderwell. Its to prevent overflow. If you have a vented cap or a breather line elsewhere you are probably Ok. _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |

I was looking at that same picture and was wondering what happened to the missing tube. My 71 is also just as you described. _________________ Jesse

Yes my 68 had a one year only gas tank before being replaced with a newer tank.I used to have that larger hose hooked up to a metal tube that comes out on the inside the passenger front fender behind the wheel ''68 only'' but lots of gas smell when making left turns. |
