Hi guyz,
Can anyone help me to understand is my Karmann originally cabriolet or coupe?
my vin number 2859597, as I know it's a 1960 cabrio...???

I would think the lack of a top would answer your question.
However, plenty of people cut the top off of these cars. If it doesn't have the bones or structure of a cab, then you've probably got a hack job of someone cutting off the top which structurally weakens the car. Convertibles had an extra steel panel in the heater channel area.

Seriously though, take a look at the top of the windshield frame. A factory-built 1960 convertible will have two attachment points for the latches like those in this photo.
Those who hack a coupe into a convertible will rarely go to the trouble of grafting in the proper convertible windshield frame.

Seems to be a lot of this going around. Just saw a faked cabriolet (without top mechanism) being sold as a real one for restoration for WAY more money than it should have.
