have just built a standard 1500 sp which had been running great with good oil pressure and low temp. Got about 120 miles on the clock and, on a short run out today, about 5 miles, all of a sudden the temp started to rise, and the pressure fall. No unusual mechanical noises, just the gauges and the hot oil smell.
Temp got up to about 110c and oil pressure below 14psi at 30mph, not good.
Ideas really appreciated, thanks |

Many years ago Gene Berg discovered that on early Bus that how many side windows you have open or closed effects the airflow to the side engine vents and causes the engine temps to change. Do a test with all the windows rolled up then repeat the same test with all the windows rolled down. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

check for a stuck relief valve, slightly open will cause the oil to heat and the pressure to drop. check for dirt in the system when you drain the oil and let us know what you find |

Not a bad idea to look in the fan as well for a rag or plastic bag. (engine stopped of course) _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I'm lazy so I always try the simple stuff first

FWIW...
I recently had a similar problem with regards to oil temps and pressure.
As I started diagnosing the relief valve (single relief case) I noticed the return spring was getting caught on an edge in right at the piston open position, causing my pressure and oil temp problems.
I noticed that my spring was flat at the top and had sharp edges so I rounded them out a bit and reduced the diameter of last spiral, which made it spring back without a problem.
Seems to be working so far...
Anyway I thought I would share in case anyone else encounters the same issue. _________________ '57 Oval Beetle -- Electric (Lil' Ohms)
