I am conpletely restoring my '68 convertible. I have the body off the Chassis and took the axels off the transmission in order to clean the tranny and frame. I shoved rags into the axel holes tightly. Long story short, everything is done and after putting the axels and tubes on I have a 1/2" of play on the right axel and no play on the left. I pulled the right back off and do not see a problem. The axel on both sides stick out 3 15/16" past the bearings on both side. Why would I have play on the right and none on the left?

Take it back apart and do it correctly. First remember to never pull outward on the axle with the bearing cap removed. You have a fulcrum plate wedged under one axle and about to have another one.

I put the right axel on first then after the left was put on I noticed the play. So, I pulled the right axel back off. I didn't see a fulcrum plate problem. And, I thought for sure the left was perfectly in place. I guess I just have to take the left off and triple check.
