I just swapped my 002 3 rib trans out and put in an 091 six rib
I ordered the new 091 with an 002 bell housing
It's all installed but when when I try to put the starter from my 002 (auto stick starter) it won't quite fit in the hole in the new 091

I checked and the hole for the starter in my old 002 is very slightly larger than the new trans

What do you think is going on?

Thanks!

Bet you did not get a 002 bell housing....

Auto trans starter should fit 002.... 091 takes a longer shaft starter so there might also be a difference in fit...

It is more than likely there is paint that needs to be scraped off for starter to fit into bell housing.
The hole is the same size on both bell housings. Just don't try using an early starter in a 091 bell housing starter will not engage properly with flywheel ring gear.
I just went out and put early starter in a 091 bell housing and it fits into the hole the same as 002 bell housing.
