Does anyone know if the steering shaft from a 1956 T1 is the same length/diameter as the 1960s T1? I know the splines are not going to be the same, but I am using an aftermarket steering wheel, so that doesn't bother me. Just need to know if I can swap one for the other.

Starting with 1960 the steering column got a little shorter to accommodate the new dished steering wheel. The turn signal switch was completely different starting that year too.

1960 and later shafts ARE shorter in length, same diameter and all 1956 and later splines are the smooth type, same.... you can use a later column with the later style directional indicator switch, as mentioned
