I hope a specialist can shed some light on the origin of this parcel tray. Is it an original baywindow ra-bambus or not? It has no tag and no tag holes. The craftmanship looks to be top notch, it looks and feels vintage, too.
The mounting bracket on the picture came with it.
The net seems to be rubber, its not bambus or sisal or the likes.
Any ideas on this one?

Yours does look very similar to mine in materials & construction, so I would say it is a Bambus tray.

Yes, I think so too. If it is a copy, it must be a vintage copy made by someone back in the days, who really knew what he was doing. But I do think it is authentic. Strange though, that there is no tag...
Does anyone have an "verified" authentic baywindow ra-bambus tray with tag??? I would really like to see a picture of one of those!!

They still make them. I just recently picked one up at a swap, its only a couple years old. Doesnt look like exact same construction...middle supports are completely wrapped.

Very interesting, I didn´t know that they still can be bought new. Mine is def vintage though. Any clue who might be selling new OG ra-bambus??Can´t seem to find anyone offering new ones on the net. I know there are a few newer copies about, f.eks. the one from Wolfbürg West, which also has a tag. Could yours be one of of those?

Check with Koch's. I know they sell them . I think mine is like the repop Bambus tray WW sells but for a ghia (hard to find too). Same metal tag...

Here is a thread showing the real thing. Yours looks legit, non wrapped center support means it isn't a repop. Cool http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=405688&highlight=bambus

Thanks. Yes, it could very well be an original one then. All I need is a tag now.
Any ideas, where to get a repro one while I am trying to locate an original? I contacted WW, but they won´t sell just the tag. You have to buy one of their repro trays aswell :/... I can´t seem to find anybody offering repros. Somebody mentions an "Anne from Germany" in some feedback, who supplied him with a proper repro tag, but that seems to be a dead end. I can´t find this elusive Anne

Yes, its the real deal! They did not always come with a metal tag. Even in their adverts there were some with no Metal makers tag. Ra-Bambus made shelves for all makes of cars. The one you have here is a Half shelf for a Karman Ghai.

Thanks for your reply. I actually bought it as a halv shelf for a baywindow. It seems to fit perfectly aswell, but maybe that is accidental and it’s ment to be for a Ghia Think . I got hold of a repop badge too, no luck yet with a real one ...

This parcel shelf is for a LDH Karmann Ghai. Its the half shelf. As far as i know, none were made for the Bay Bus by Ra-Bambus. there are some repro ones out there, easy to spot as the Dividers (Bamboo) are completely wrapped in the white plastic, as opposed to the genuine, which are wrapped in the middle and at each end, exposing the bamboo.

The shelf fits perfectly in my bay, surely looks like as if it was made for T2 ( shelves for type2 are divided, too). I purchased it of a guy, who bought up an old ra-bambus stock at Hessisch Oldendorf years back. He was told, most of the shelves were prototypes. It sure does look like ra bambus and fits ...

Yes, yours is a Genuine Ra-Bambus, and it may fit the bay perfectly, but if you get a chance and can try it on a LHD Ghai, you will find it should fit like a glove!
