I recently picked up these 2 sets of rare early Weber 40mm sandcast carburetors that I plan on using on original Okrasa heads. Enjoy photos! Mr. Okrasa Cool

Hello-

Which is worth more - the carbs or the car?

Cheers,

Paul

There are no production dates on the carb bodies so determining when they were made is not possible. Based on the serial numbers of the 4 carbs,
they were from the 1st batch of 100 made. One of them is even stamped #20! It would be interesting to know when they were made......Anybody?

according to weber of north america the new ones have the year stamped on the inside of the carb body by the bottom of the squirters. he wasnt sure if the old originals also were this way or not.

1966 fiat 124 euro spyders with the twin cam engines came from the factory with dual 40idf's. if they are a 1966 model year car they likely were produced in mid to late 1965 for the 1966 models. and for weber and fiat to install them on a production vehicle they likely originated and or were tested earlier than 1965... with that said i am still on the hunt for printed proof or a pic of a carb with a date on it prior to dec 1965. thanks, mike in oklahoma

Yes, available to the public in 1965 or earlier (not prototypes!) is the key. Good luck on your search as the better the old carburetors are that are legal just makes the racing better. And "faster"! ! !

The early sandcast IDF Webers, for me are just pure nostalgia! Will they work better than the common/later die cast Webers........who knows.
Same for the sandcast Weber DCM carburetors that im going to use on my Denzel engine. Cheers! Laughing

joe, sandcast ida's were on original shelby cobra's in the early to mid sixties/63-65. and were replaced by the diecast body carbs in or around 66. very likely the idf sand cast carbs were of this vintage era as well. just an fyi. happy motoring. mike in oklahoma

Here is another set of early 38 IDF Sandcast Weber carbs I purchased the other day. The previous owner said they were on a running 1955 Porsche 356 engine when removed. They are very low production numbers: 14 & 18 as noted on enameled tag. These too are vintage race parts and wondering how well they would perform compared to the 40 IDF's. Enjoy. Mr. Okrasa Cool

Got my "Sandcast" Weber 38 IDF's in the mail the other day! Sure are purdy. Now I have to modify a
set of intake manifolds to fit the Denzel heads. Cheers! Mr. Okrasa Cool
