Thanks Greg! My next largest hurdle is to get up there and wire up the instrument panel, etc. Holy crap. That's going to be a challenge for me. So, I pop the hood, stare at it, look at the drawings, shut the hood and starting drinking beer. Needless to say, I haven't gotten much done with that. Laughing

But I've been doing some other stuff, so all's not lost. I really appreciate the fact you like it though. This color scheme and all was my brain child. It's kinda funky but I like it. Glad some others do too!

Wiring is basically done. Engine runs great. Hopefully be cruising by the end of the month. Actually pulled into and backed out of the shop under power today. 😀

BTW - the Watson's Street Works harness has some issues.....mainly in the turn signal and hazard circuit areas. Wiring diagrams suck beyond belief. But outside of that, it is totally worth it. So glad I upgraded. Not for the purists, but everything is so solid. No more glitches. No more popped fuses. It's all so straight-forward and new. Great quality wiring....labeled every 3 inches. I mean, damn. Worth every penny.

Your 66 is a beauty! I have enjoyed reading your project thread. If you ever get it up into the northwest, I would love to see it.

Thanks, Pepsiguy! It seems unreal I'm so close to actually driving this thing. I've got to tidy up some electrical still. Then send her off to an upholstery shop. Hopefully within this month. Hopefully.

On August 7 ,2013 I posted on this thread that you had inspired me to go ahead with a major project .
Came across this thread today and wanted to note that I am in the finishing trim phase too ...two and a half years later !
I did take a MAJOR shortcut by buying an unfinished project that already had the rolling chassis already restored and powdercoated .

Thanks again for the inspiration Smile project thread is the one below .

Finished up some sound deadening. Then hauled her off to the upholstery shop. Should be about three weeks till I get her back. Then, a couple weeks tidying up some small stuff.......and I'm going for my first test drive. Can't believe it.

Thanks, Kinkerstinker!! It sure is hitting home that I almost have a complete "new" car. I just told my wife this morning, all of my OCD....anal-retentive, time-consuming, pickiness is finally paying off.

Installed the fiberboard and carpet onto the seat back tonight. I had another backseat that I was able to rob the little aluminum piece (air hole? Don't know what it is for), the steel bar at the top, and the little plates for the seat stoppers, from. Once it was all moved over, it looked like a factory seat. I had to trim the fiberboard just a little to match the carpet. And then I glued the carpet to the fiberboard with upholstery adhesive. Turned out pretty good, I think. I'm gonna pull the steel bar off and have it powder coated in ivory like everything else.

The aluminum piece is for some kind of strap, I believe it straps the seat back to the seat bottom?

I got this image from the picture gallery. There's probably a better picture out there of it in use.

I can't seem to figure out how to secure the canvas strap, to the backrest, and used to hold the backrest down when using that area for cargo. I bought one from Wolfsburg West, but not sure how it attaches to the backrest! Anyone able to shed some light on that? Maybe a picture?

It has a sewed loop that looks like it attaches to something inside of the backrest! If it weren't for that I would think it just wraps around the tubular frame!

The loop passes through the hole in the carpet backed seat board and the loop fits around a metal plate. look at my photos.

Well.....almost 7 years later......I'm about 3 days away from slapping an inspection sticker on this car and being legal. Been getting after the wiring. What a whip for a dude who's just not real great with that stuff. But, I stayed at it. And with the help of friends, tech hotlines, and the Samba....I persevered. Very happy with my choice to use an aftermarket kit. However, there were some hurdles and corrections which had to be made to wiring diagrams, etc. But overall, it's nice to have new wiring, great connections, and modern-day flat fuses.

Not quite completely done....but got the wiring from this mess:

Well.....it's finished. Not entirely, but it never will be. It's legal and the wife and I went cruisin' tonight. Grabbed a sandwich. Went cruisin out through the country and stopped off at Mom and Dad's. Finally got to give mom a ride in her first car.....again. What a deal. What an adventure it has been. Still sinking in that it's a real, driving, capable car again. Wow.

Awesome!

The car looks great. I've been an avid watcher and it is cool to see you have that bug on the road again.

What does your mom think of her old car?

Great work Moto!!
