Does anybody know what type of rubber I need for my zwitter for the running boards?
The split ones or the oval models?
Thanks for your help. _________________ 1950 Hebmuller #458

The oval ones are closest.

This is a NOS one of the style that was found by me on my 1953 oval. I would expect the same one was on the Zwitters too. Big ribs with flat ends.

The originals that came on my zwitter and one other zwitter runningboard I have had the big ribs but they went all the way to the ends. No flat area. But good luck finding them. That's why I said oval type are closest.

I had an unrestored 59 with ribs who are ending about 4CM before the ending of the runningboardmat _________________ 1950 Hebmuller #458

Yeah, these ones I have linked above have the ribs that run all the way to the ends. But I don't know the differences from where the ribs taper on the inside edge from wide to narrow. |

Maybe it depends on who the running board rubber manufacturer was at the time of installation? Or, maybe what was on the assembly line at the time that particular car came down the line? I plan to use the style with a flat area on the ends for my '53 Standard Zwitter. _________________ '63 OG 117 Herbie Replica

ZwitterND, Looking at your photo, I see you have the holy grail of running board trims. The original non anodized, non ribbed style. I'm envious.

A friend of mine just took a set of trim as used from 1953 up and sanded carefully down the anodized shine.
A bit of polishing afterwards and after some time in the elements it is just the right Zwitter trim.
A good way to go instead of looking forever for originals.
Can be done with the upper side trim as well.
But not with the front handle. That has to be the massive aluminium one. _________________ Master of my domain! |

Yes, removing the anodizing will provide a similar look. But as you and I know the entire makeup of the trim is different.
It's one of those things on another Zwitter that I key in on as it tells me what kind of car that is was to have had such a easily damaged piece still there to be reinstalled.
I know how we are maligned "Oh A Zwitter is not a REAL split window"...
but they make reproduction trim for a double glove box.
I'll step off the soapbox. |
