Lovely. The car looks to have been very nicely restored or amazingly preserved. Seats look original. |
It took a while but I finally have some original paper work from the car.
Found out it has been completely restored in 1999 and got some sort of museum certificate for it in Finland.

Just picked up this little March of 61 Beetle. I have an October of 60 engine waiting to go in. Not much has been touched on this car so I don't want to mess with anything I don't have to.

January 1961 build. Gulf Blue Convertible. It was a train wreck when I got it. Three years later...

Our 1960 DeLuxe has a window washer knob on the dash underneath the steering wheel. I can't seem to find any info on this item, (except one post.) Would this have been considered an option on a 1960 model, or was it standard equipment?
The chassis was manufactured in Dec '59, and engine in January '60.
Thanks.

I will go ahead and add mine.
1960 Ragtop
Originally Indigo Blue from what I can tell, will be repainted as such.
Chassis 2855945
Engine H0974915 (If someone can help ID this engine I would appreciate it.)
Car looks to be all original (less the engine), but customized.
Tear down begins hopefully this winter, pending a garage build. I have already ordered a spare tire well and Euro front apron as the ones on it are a bit worse for wear. Once I get the paint off I will see what else needs to be replaced, or can be fixed. |

I introduced ourselves and our beetle "Amos" in the forum, but thought I would ad him to this registry as well. I won't go into all the history here, please check out the story on my other post if you are interested.
He is a 61 Ragtop in L391 Pastel Blue. He is a matching numbers car with the chassis 3504xxx manufactured on Dec 9th '60, shipped Dec 15th. To Seattle WA.
The images are fresh from when we picked him up after sitting since 94. Hadn't washed, started etc.. etc.. just winched him on and off the trailer.

Mine's a Pastel Blue.
Got it yesterday first fired up, after many years of preparation

Beautiful car, the paint looks amazing! Love that color combo!! Any interior pics?

3 037 538 is alive and well with all of the original bolt on panels except for the front hood. Does anyone have any history or old pics of this car. This is all that came with the car
I know it ended up at volkswagen washington Inc. At some point but that's about it. I'd love to get some more history on it.

Hi Folks, I'm Marcos from Argentina, I'm restoring my first Beetle it's a 1960, I own since 2002.
Can someone tell me with some measures or references the correct position for the tail lights?
They are not in the same as in oval window bug position, right?
Also need the position of the hole where the tail lights wires go throught the rear wheel arch.
Thanks! _________________ 52 Ambulance

Thanks!
I saw this, is it for snowflakes?
I own an Oval window too, but i'm not sure if the 60 and the 57 bug have the lights at the same position.

Can anyone tell me what the "sissy bar" is on a '61 beetle? According to "Rob and Dave's Aircooled Volkswagen Pages", in 1961 a sissy bar was added but there was also a "sun visor and grab handle for passenger". So what is the sissy bar???
1961 (1 Aug 60 to 31 July 62)
Chassis 3,192,507 - 4,010,994
Engine 3,912,904 - 3,924,022
5,000,001 - 5,958,947
Note the change in the model year dates.
1200cc engine, 40bhp (SAE), 34BHP(DIN), 7:1 compression.
Fuel pump relocated to right of distributor.
Generator stand now separate from block.
Lifter and pushrods no longer one-piece units.
Valves are angled in heads.
28 PICT carby with auto-choke.
Fully synchromesh transmission.
Vacuum advance distributor.
Positive crankcase ventilation (spiral grove in crankshaft behind crank pulley).
Flatter fuel tank.
28 blade cooling fan.
Tie rod ends ‘permanently greased'.
Sissy bar added.
Non-repeat starter switch.
Wider front shoes and linings.
Transparent brake fluid reservoir.
Pump type windshield washer.
Push-on wiring connectors.
Larger heater pipes.
Sun visor and grab handle for passenger.
Thanks |

That's not standard.
It would help us to identify it if you posted a picture of the culprit?? _________________ drive it like you just robbed the bank
