DOes anyone know what gen this is? It was (I think) in my '51 when I got it, but that 25hp engine had had quite a bit or re-engineering done to it. It is an A15, not an AL25, and the (apparent) date code is "8B", on the armature also.

The previous owner also had some Porsche 356 stuff, could this be a P-gen?

That is what the VW range would indicate, but I don't think it is a '46. It had the large hub, 36mm nut and all.

But who knows....? Rolling Eyes

I am pretty sure in 1946 the VW had the RED 90/6/2200 AL15.
Then in 1948 they went to the RED 130/6/2600 AL15

When you find generator parts with VW numbers and lacking Bosch #'s this indicates that the part is/for the Garbe Lahmeyer generators. My records indicated that GL was first utilized by VW in Mid 1955.

Was the original post subject 130 watt generator rebuilt with a 160 watt armature ."Watt" was the out come ? Did it function ? Did it go up in a puff of smoke and melt all evidence of improper part numbers ?
