Need help identifying this gas tank. Came out of a 50 split, restored in 1999.

Based on the indentation around the filler neck, it appears to be an Oval era tank (53-55), but has this recessed rib across the front.

Searched the forums and galleries and have not found another like it that will help identify the year. Anyone seen one, year?

Anyone else seen a 100mm tank with that horizontal pressing? I'd like to know what year it's from as well.

1 more pic of the tank showing the rib. If you can help identify it, let me know.

Thanks, Jeff

My wild guess is right at the very end of production of that tank, just before they started the 56-60 tank. Anyone got a late June 55 car?

My early 55 has same pressing at the neck. However no horizontal indent (reforcement). Also my 53 has same tank as my 55 but different neck pressing.

I do. I've got the 3 fold, ribbed door, bullet 55 in the garage. I'll go look tomorrow. Can't say I've noticed it before.

Thanks for everyone's help trying to identify it. I previously had a mid year 55 with 2 tanks and no rib. Guessing others will find the same. The mystery continues.

Alrighty, thanks Jeff! Your thread was the first thing I was able to find with any mention of a tank like this.

I'd agree with Bruce. End of production in 55, as these ribs are shown in 56- late tanks.

This thread is specifically about the indented rib on the front of this tank. Not looking for general info on which tanks were specific to which years. That research was already done. Re-read the original post and look at the pictures. If you have some specific info to the rib, post away.
