I'm sending my smoothies off to powder coat on Friday. My fronts wheels are stock size. The tears have been widened and have a 185/65 15 tire on them. I'm looking for a front tire to go with that. Will a 185 tire fit onto the front of a stock height '66 beetle? Then I can run 4 of the same size tire. If not what tire size would you recommend? A 165/70 15 is pretty damn close, but I don't think that's a normal tire size people carry.

Here's a little chart to compare sizes. I want a tire with the same height or shorter than what I'm running in the rear, but it's proving difficult.

This site also has a "visualizer" where it shows a picture of each tire side by side to show the size differences.

Cali_Army_Guy,
You stated that your front wheels are stock, 4 1/2" Width?
Your Rear Wheels are Widened to ? At least 5" to accommodate the 185/65/15 Tires.
The problem is that there are limited choices when using 4 1/2" Wheels.
Most 185/65/15 Tires have an Overall Diameter of 24.5" the closest tire for a 4 1/2" Wheel is a 145/15 with an Overall Diameter of 24.3"
I have never seen a 165/70/15 tire available.
175/65/15 is OD of 24" and fits rim width 5" - 6"

The rears are 6" wide. I have no problem running a 145 tire in the front. But now once again the issue becomes height. A 145/80 is 24.1" tall but is that even a common size?

Edit: I see now 145R 15 is basically the same as a 145/80 15. Looks like I'll run that in the front. Thanks for that suggestion.

I've never seen 145/80/15 tires available.
145/15 is a hard tire size to find also but they are available.
