Neat article out of May 1958 Foreign Car Guide. I thought folks might like to see this old article. It's too bad the owner "updated" it back then, but maybe someone got their hands on it years on and returned it to its former glory?

Yes, I know this Hebmüller from years ago :!: :!:

When I was station in Germany in 1969, I acquired a 1949 Hebmüller 14-00258.

I brought it back to the USA, restored it and drove and exhibited quite frequently in So. California at the VW shows.

I created a Hebmüller Registry and collected an enormous amount of information such as the history and photos through
owners of Hebmüllers of the 1970-1999 time period. This was a huge 7 inch binder with hundreds of pages, with owners info,
photos, Hebmüller changes over the years, etc.

I had such a passion for getting and collecting the Hebmüller information.

Truly an archive of information and it became known as the Hebmüller Bible !!

After owning the Hebmüller VW for 30 years, I thought it was time for the owner and car to part ways after having such a good ride !!

Now it was time for a new owner to enjoy the Hebmüller as I did.

So at the time, I became an acquaintance of Yam Rami in England who showed a lot of interests in the Hebmüller Volkswagen in general.

So I decided to turn over and give to Yan Rami the Hebmüller Bible for him to promote the Hebmüller and share the information with other enthusiasts !!

As it turns out and to my disappointment, Yan Rami does not share the information
and just enjoys the status of owning the Hebmüller Bible.

I have tried so many times and ways to get back the Hebmüller Bible from Yan Rami to no success.

As I explained to Yan Rami, it is my intent now to scan all the pages in the Hebmüller Bible and place them on a Hebmüller website so that
everyone can have access to the information.

Yan Rami refuses to give up the Hebmüller Bible and refuses to share any of the information in it contains !! It is such a shame !!

Too bad that this was a poor judgement on my part to give up the Hebmüller Bible to Yan Rami and others now are left out with archived information.

I know that the Hebmüller Bible would have information about the Hebmüller that was in this article that you are asking about.

Was this car even a Heb? The article makes no mention of ot even though i know it looks like it is. Well no mention of Karmann either.. Or any coach builder. Or maybe i need to re-read the article more carefully.

Hacksaw-BoB Sun Jun 21, 2015 8:29 pm

Yes, A genuine Hebmüller VW . . . but modernized at the time of the magazine article !!

I will see if I can identify this heb. To bad Yan will not reply to you Bob. On occasion, he show's off a part of the bible on meetings like last summer in Kaarst when the Hebmuller family organised the so cool Heb only meeting with visit on the factory. To bad the info stays with him. He is a nice guy to speak with but a bit hard to get info out the book.
Wished I met you earlier Bob...

peter schepens Sun Jun 21, 2015 11:50 pm

BANG; I spoke to a Norway guy at Bad Camberg meeting to ask about the strange back seat in his heb... He told me it was just a plate, no seat. BANG, that is the one here. It is nr 76, It still have that big plastic window, now is in a pink with ivory paint and some flowers on it. He asked me to give him details on how to make the back part original again.... So I will do ;-)
That is what it's all about. helping each other. Thanks to the poster of this article, a part of the story on that hebmuller is clear.

I am Hebby ;-) and I bet the owner now also .

peter schepens Mon Jun 22, 2015 2:31 am

He will be interested. I whould never found it what car it was without his story on saturday.. Bad Camberg Rules for getting contacts. Remember BOB, that was where we met ;-)

Hi. Does the car still have the Oval era dash or was it changed back? What about all the other modifications such as the Porche motor and brakes?

I can post other articles about coachbuts from Foreign Car Guide if anyone is interested. I have the whole collection now. Good source of information.

Rob

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your interests !!

As I recall, there is a Foreign Car Guide issue with a rear view of a Hebmüller VW on the front cover ?

Perhaps the readers would be interested in seeing the story about that Hebmüller from years ago ?

Would you make some photos ?

Thanks . . .

Yes please scan them. Maybe we can identify more cars... THe oval dash is still there... but not for long. It will be restored in former glory.

Ace that the Heb has been identified & is still around.
It's a tricky one to decide how much of those early mods to correct...part of its story with a clear link to the article.
Would really like to see some more pictures of it.

Sounds like YAN RAMI needs to do the right thing. Same as that USA Lowlight Ghia bloke.

Hacksaw-BoB Mon Jun 22, 2015 11:27 am

Thanks for your support RockStock :!: :!:

Like I said, if I could get back the Hebmüller Bible I created . . .

I would scan and put all the information on a Hebmüller
VW web site for all of us to see :!: :!:

Now is the time to do what is right Yan Rami :!: :!:

RockStock Mon Jun 22, 2015 12:06 pm

Well I despise that sort of hoarding info thing.
And it appears you put the bulk of it together!

Im less than an hour away. It would be easy for me to pick it up.
The situation just needs a bit of people power. Shaming.

*RICHARD TROY

Do they keep it until the point where no-ones bothered about these old cars?
What happens when they keel over? The wife throws it in the bin with the other junk?

'What one thing can you do today for the greater good?'

peter schepens Mon Jun 22, 2015 12:21 pm

I am not a moderator but isn't it the best that yan should contact Bob to speak to each other ?
He claims he invested a lot of time and money into the bible... I know he did but the least he can do is maybe giving Bob's part back. He can scan them all in maybe so he have no loss...
I also invested a lot of time (but less money) into the research because I wanted to do this. ( however If i spent the time on other things, I had more cars finished and maybe have my own heb :D ) but my info is shared if needed.
I hope this can be settled between Bob and Yan.

Hacksaw-BoB Mon Jun 22, 2015 1:00 pm

The part that I may have not made clear is that I only want the Hebmüller Bible back
to scan all the information that it contains to put on a Hebmüller VW website.

Then Yan Rami can have the Hebmüller Bible back :!:

I do not want to keep it :!:

I have asked Yan Rami many times to just scan the information or
let me scan the information to place on a Hebmüller VW site.

He refuses to share the information.

Interesting. I was at one time many years ago when I was a lot in contact with Yan to scan the Bible if I at some time would meet up with him. Unfortunately I had not been able to go to UK and meet up with him at the time being...

Yes there was : August 1961 - the feature was on a 1949 Heb. I sold one of the issues on here long ago :
