Now I found this VW Spezialist pin. It is very small - only 15x23 mm. Compared to the one I saw at eBay, it looks more filigree to me.
Could this be an original one ?
If not, could anybody tell me, if there were originals from the 50s/60s, or it is a later fantasy piece at all ?
If there are original ones - how do they look like ?
How to identifiy ?

Thanks, Ralph

Hi Ralph,

I do not recall ever seeing an original VW SPEZIALIST badge.

I purchased this reproduction VW SPEZIALIST badge when they first came out in the mid 1990s.

Looking at your badge and on the back, the pin mounting is different and looks more old school.

Perhaps yours is an original badge.

Hi Bob !
The pin mounting of your badge looks like the one I saw at eBay.
There is a german pin seller writing on his page that some of those badges have been produced for the international motor show IAA Frankfurt in 1999, as reproduction of a vintage pin ...
I agree, perhaps mine is an old original one, but as long as I don't have more information about, I will have to consider it as reproduction too.
Regards from Germany, Ralph

The badges are real Rob. They were produced from original dies. If they were put on a car for judging.......the car would not be judged down for reproduction parts.
Where there is a problem is....... Were they originally issued by VW....?
Probably not. The early badges had much better detail and the body badge was hallmarked. The more dies get used, the more the detail fades.Badge collectors do not find these nearly as collectable as the 1953/54 VW issued badges, but they do have better value then the mass produced fakes that are out there. I would use them as "place holders" until I could find an early issued set.

Thank you Bob, much appreciated.

The post looks kinda modern.
But, don’t know if real/fake?... typical value?
I’m going to sell it. No history, it was in a box of VW stuff I picked up somewhere.

A member reported this ad to say these were fakes:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2386542

I want to notify the seller if that is true.

Opinions/Feedback?
Thank you.
