The Gurgel X-12 is a brazilian coachbuilt made between 70's and 90's.
Its body was built in fiberglass with Typ 1 powertrain but it didn't use the VW chassi. The X-12's chassi was a steel tubular connected to the fiberglass body through a process called Plasteel that connects both forming a monoblock set.
The front axle was the of the VW beetle but the rear suspension used coil springs.
Built like a little off-road, the X-12 was mounted with mixed-use tires and a selective lock system of wheels for avoid jams in the mud.
The Gurgel X-12 of this photo is a TR version, with rigid roof, tuned in the VEB style. The VEB (Velha Escola Brasileira or Brazilian Old School) style is a way of tuning that only use brazilian accessories and techniques used in the 60's and 70's by brazilians tuners.
