Just visited the first Vdub and brand new Wolfsburcht museum in The Netherlands! Many thanks to André van Wijlen for showing me around in this great piece of VW history!!! The building is a true reflection of the Wolfsburg logo... cars on display include a schwimmwagen, spli, oval and all the years beyond...A must do for anyone visiting the Netherlands (http://www.wolfsburcht.nl/). Also a great opportunity to find some missing parts... Lot's of pictures of the museum on www.volksculture.com as they exceed max size for TheSamba...

I have a 1951 on what has been identified as a 1954 pan/chassis. My question is "what the heck is this bracket?” It is on both sides, mounted to the body inner wheel housing. The picture you see is of the left side. The yellow wires are to my horn so you can get an idea of the proximity. Any ideas?

The block was toast due to sitting in a field for 25 years, but the internals were OK. Needless to say, the motor was locked up tight. In order to save the internals, the case was cut up.

Here are some parts before we work them over and bolt them back up to the motor. Check out that funky muffler, I have never seen one like it before have any of you? It is one solid muffler, very heavy no VW on it that I can see.

Here is my 47 on the left in the rear compared to a 50 painted L37 medium blue. As you can see there is a difference in full sunlight it it very apparant. Under floursent lighting or inside it is hard to discern the subtle difference.
