The model covered is the conversion manufactured here in Adelaide,
South Australia, by E. Sopru & Co - one of several Kombi conversion
specialists operating in Australia during the 1960s through to the
1980s, but the only one to be officially sanctioned by Volkswagen
Australia and sold nationally through VW's own dealership network.
This conversion design, largely unknown outside Australia for
decades is fairly similar in some respects to the Westy-style
fit-outs but has a few unique features - kangaroo bars mounting the
spare tyre, big, underslung galvanised water tanks, Electrolux
three-way fridges which can operate independently on gas for a week
or more - which made the Australian Campmobiles especially
well-adapted for our conditions. |
