In 1964, Tucson artist Charles Clement was commissioned to create an
original sculpture for the new Van Wyk Motors showroom at 5900 East
Speedway. The Volkswagen and Porsche dealership was designed by the
local firm of Cook and Swaim in a highly expressive approach that
included burnt adobe and 12 thin-cast concrete vaults for the roof
structure. The Clement sculptures, typical of his playful modern style,
were group of abstracted forms that represented cars and drivers.
