No acepte cualquier mole. The ad is a
tongue-in-cheek appropriation of Mexicanism, "more Mexican than mole".
That particular version of the national dish, as presented in the ad, is
called "Mole Poblano", and the ad says that they in Puebla were very
proud of their mole, and also of their Beetle Submitted by Miguel Chavez |

It's ugly but it gets you there (Spanish)
Spanish version of the classic DDB ad of 1969 showing the lunar module.
Interesting because this was the version of the ad published in Mexico,
so it is not only in Spanish but the car shown is definitely a Mexican
Beetle, quite different from the car sold in the US in 1969. Submitted by Miguel Chavez |

Our best Salesman (Spanish)
Originally published in 1961, the Mexican version of the ad appeared in
January 1969 in the local edition of Life magazine. It contains a very
good translation of the original text. By that time the car used in the
ad was already 8 years old, but it required a good eye to tell the
difference with the latest model sold in Mexico (which was basically the
same as the 1965 US model). And to further adapt the ad to the local
market, the license plate on the car was replaced by a photo of the
then-current plates used in Mexico (which, in turn, are interesting
because they are the so-called "Olympic" plates, in reference of the XIX
Olympiad held in Mexico during summer 1968). Submitted by Miguel Chavez |
